REFCON 2026 Participation: ARC–UNHCR Conference on Refugee Studies
Aurbina Scholars Hub displayed a research poster at ARC–UNHCR REFCON 2026 in Kuala Lumpur on Rohingya refugee education, protection, and survival, and engaged in a two-day conference learning from global discussions on forced displacement.
REFCON 2026 Participation
Aurbina Scholars Hub participated in the ARC–UNHCR Conference on Refugee Studies and Forced Displacement (REFCON 2026), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 9 to 10 June 2026.
During the conference, Aurbina Scholars Hub presented a research poster entitled “Education, Protection, and Survival Among Rohingya Refugees in Malaysia: Statelessness and Refugee Agency”.
The poster focuses on the lived experiences of Rohingya refugees in Malaysia, highlighting key issues such as access to education, protection challenges, survival mechanisms, and the realities of statelessness. It also emphasizes refugee agency and community resilience in long-term displacement contexts.
Over the course of the two-day conference, we participated in various academic sessions, panel discussions, and knowledge-sharing forums involving researchers, humanitarian practitioners, policymakers, and refugee-led organizations.
Key thematic areas included forced displacement, refugee protection frameworks, education in emergencies, psychosocial support, and durable solutions for displaced populations.
We also had valuable opportunities to connect and exchange ideas with different NGOs and participants from various countries, including ASEAN School of Business (ASB), strengthening our engagement with global academic and institutional stakeholders.
The experience provided meaningful learning and capacity building, strengthening our commitment to refugee-led education, research, and advocacy.
It also reinforced the importance of inclusive approaches that center the voices and lived experiences of displaced communities in research and policy discussions.
Aurbina Scholars Hub extends its sincere appreciation to the Asia Research Centre (ARC), UNHCR, REFCON 2026 organizing committee, and ASEAN School of Business (ASB) for hosting this important platform for dialogue, research, and collaboration.
